SERVICE & GENEROSITY

We live in a culture today where we are provoked and tempted constantly to ask and think about wanting the newest iPhone or needing the newest car and ultimately trying to answer the questions “Do I have enough?” or “Is who I am enough?” While instead, our focus can and should be on recognizing that the abundant lives we have because of Christ IS enough.

Even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
— Matthew 20:28

Make this a Rhythm in your life: Generosity and serving others in the context of the church often seems to fall in this awkward space where it seems like it’s all about money or serving within the walls of the building, but there is so much more to it. While yes, tithing and serving the church body are tangible opportunities to carry out what God’s word says, it is more important to answer the question: “Am I becoming a more loving person with my generosity?”

Challenge: Find a way to be generous! This can mean generosity of time, talent, or materials. Maybe that looks like serving with a ministry in your community or bringing a meal to a friend in need. Or maybe that looks like teaching your children about generosity and showing them what that tangibly means by being attuned to the needs around you. However the Lord is leading you, our prayer is for your heart to be one full of love, putting others first through generous actions and a servant-hearted attitude.
